Every time our American football club members dine out, basically we go to restaurants that serve hearty meals at reasonable prices. Fukuokan students particularly like motsu-nabe (one-pot dish with giblets cooked at the table).

This restaurant offers five kinds of basic motsu-nabe soup: “salt & pork,” “miso,” “soymilk,” “soy sauce” and “spicy miso.” You can also add giblets and vegetables to the pot — as much as you like! In other words, you can customize your motsu-nabe to suit yourself! When you finish your motsu-nabe of noodles cooked in your selected motsu-nabe soup, you will be full and contented.

Moffles
“Moffles”— new half-Japanese, half-Western sweets

“Moffles” are popular, healthy desserts made by toasting mochi (Japanese rice cake) in a waffle iron. You can enjoy “moffles” with various ingredients or toppings. You’ll love their crispy and jelly-like texture! You can eat them in this caf or take them out to eat while walking.
(Ciao does not offer take-out service for its Italian gelato.)

Left: Moffle with ham, cheese and egg (¥280) Right: Italian gelato (¥250)

Ciao, a nice café with a cheerful atmosphere, is located on a busy Tojin-machi Shopping Street. It only serves dishes made of mainly organic ingredients. Ciao’s curry and rice, with ingredients simmered for about 16 hours, and its handmade Italian gelato, are especially popular.
