Profile
Kurume University provides a well-developed, preliminary Japanese-language education for international students, to ensure them a smooth campus life.

Located in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, Kurume City is continuing to develop as the commercial and transportation center of the southern area of the Prefecture. With Kyushu’s greatest river, the Chikugo, running through the City and a range of mountains facing its east side, Kurume is known as the “City of Water and Greenery.”
Kurume University consists of five campuses, with undergraduate and graduate schools, as well as other facilities, including a university hospital, junior and senior high schools, and research institutes. Maintaining close relations with the local community, the University seeks to foster graduates with a rich sense of humanity who can contribute to the local community.
In April 2007, the University established the Kurume University Beijing Educational Exchange Center in China, with the objective of enhancing its support for international students. The Center is expected to serve as a hub of academic exchange, as well as a base for various activities for students who have returned from Kurume University and hope to make international contributions in a wide range of fields.
Kurume University is also continuing its efforts to effectively support prospective international undergraduate and postgraduate students. For instance, the University provides an Intensive Japanese Program, designed to improve prospective students’ level of Japanese, so that they can comprehend undergraduate/postgraduate lectures and write papers in Japanese with ease.

Our University invites international students to join the four-day, three-night “Japanese History & Culture Study Tour,” which is offered every September. Tour destinations include Kyoto, Nara, Tokyo and other places. This tour is very popular among the international students because they are able to get a glance of the Japanese culture and history in a general sense. In addition, our University has introduced a “Foreign Student Support Hour” program, which gives international students the chance to consult three times a week with University instructors, as well as with Japanese and international postgraduate students who serve as tutors.
