Class scenery

Located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, the Fukuoka Institute of Technology (FIT) is known as an ecological campus with rich greenery, a stream and abundant sunshine. Consisting of two engineering-related faculties and one humanities faculty (the Faculty of Social and Environmental Studies), FIT features small-group instruction. Since students receive solid grounding in the three main fields of Information, Environment and Manufacturing, FIT is able to boast an impressive employment rate of 98.1% (100% for Graduate School students) for the year 2008, despite the deteriorating employment conditions.
FIT has one of the best Information Education facilities in western Japan, as well as the Manufacturing Center, which is equipped with facilities that make it possible for ideas to take physical shape. By making the most of these advantages, FIT has achieved solid results, particularly in the field of robot technology; one such result is FIT Team’s frequent participation in RoboCup (an international robotic soccer competition).
The greatest strength of FIT is the fact that its graduates are in great demand in the industry. Notably, an increasing number of manufacturing, IT and environmental companies wish to hire graduates of the Institute. Last year, 99% of its graduates had found work prior to graduating. FIT provides financial and other support for international students wishing to go on to work after graduation, by subsidizing transportation expenses when visiting the Kanto and Kansai areas for job hunting.
FIT has a large number of sister schools in various countries, such as China, Korea, the U.S. and Thailand, and has been an active member in promoting mutual exchange. As a result, nearly 100 international students are currently enrolled at FIT and studying hard to become international engineers and businessmen.

Introduction of Graduate Schools

Based on the founding principles of the Fukuoka Institute of Technology (FIT), its Graduate programs aim to teach and research into academic theories and applications and master the depths of learning, and thereby develop human resources that can contribute to technological advancement and social progress.
The objectives of the Master’s Courses are to impart profound knowledge from broad perspectives, so that students can develop research capabilities in their specialized fields and excellent abilities to perform professional work requiring sophisticated expertise. The Graduate School of Engineering consists of seven master’s
courses:

  1. 1. Information Electronics
  2. 2. Functional Materials Engineering
  3. 3. Intelligent Mechanical Engineering
  4. 4. Electrical Engineering
  5. 5. Computer Science and Engineering
  6. 6. Communication and Information Networking
  7. 7. Management and Systems Engineering
The Graduate School of Socio-Environmental Studies offers the master’s course in this field to train the students to acquire the high skills and knowledge of economic management and law administration for the solution of environmental problems.

The Doctor’s Course aims to develop outstanding research capabilities and knowledge supporting these capabilities as required in a highly industrial world. The Graduate School of Engineering offers doctoral courses in Material Science and Production Engineering, and Intelligent Information System Engineering.

Keiko Yoshii , Coordinator International Operations Office

This year we developed a new support system for international students by assigning a Japanese tutor for each major, hiring faculty advisors, organizing a Japanese culture experience program and coordinating tours to Japanese companies. Moreover, we recruit Japanese students as international exchange supporters to deepen the understanding of international students, Japanese students as well as the local community, and promote the learning experience through events. We listen to the voices of the students everyday and strive to provide the support they need in order to enjoy their overseas education experience to the fullest .
